This Certified Program MediaArtHistories Basic offers a theoretical introduction to the history of media art and introduces key developments in contemporary art practice of the last 3 decades – for example from computer animation, netart, interactive, telematic and genetic art to the most recent reflections of artists about nano-art. For the first time national and international experts convey theory models of multimedia systems in a compact form. Moreover, students are given insight into the area between Art & Science. The latest developments in cognition theory are taught as well as media archaeology, techniques of visualisation and history of science.

International theoreticians, artists and curators point out key-developments and historic contexts and lead through the latest know-how in media scientific occupation of humanities and natural sciences. The students are introduced to a network of international experts and have the possibility to reflect in small groups and on a high level about contemporary developments of the art market, the culture and media sector, technical achievements and media science. This knowledge is deepened in an essay and may be specialized in your own field of interest.

Necessary for the admission to the university course MediaArtHistories Basic are

  • General qualification for university entrance or
  • appropriate professional experience of minimum one year
  • minimum age of 21 years
  • applicants who are not English native speakers have to prove their knowledge of the English language before the admittance.

  • Access to a computer with internet connection outside the Danube-University Krems for the duration of the course of study.
